A Stocking Ban
Repeated warnings from Scott and one article in Parents magazine were not enough to warrant my concern of the possibility of Emma pulling at the stocking that hung from it's holder on our fireplace mantle. Scott continually stated "I don't think we should hang those stockings like that. Emma could pull it and that holder will come right down on her head." My thought: Since when did Scott become a safety expert. The child in the magazine article actually got a concussion from doing the same. My thought: that kid is dumb.
Nope, by god, we were hanging our cute family of four stockings from our fireplace come high or hell water.
Then it happened. And not even under my watch! Scott and I went out Saturday night, leaving the kids with a babysitter. We hadn't been gone for 5 minutes (we hadn't even made it to the highway yet) when the sitter called to say that Emma had pulled at the stocking and the holder landed right on her head. She had a scrape and was bleeding but nothing that couldn't be controlled. By the time she called Emma wasn't even crying anymore.
We no longer have stockings hanging from our mantle and probably won't for a few more years. And yes, Scott, I know. YOU TOLD ME SO.

Solution: Instead of your pretty stockings, use one of Scott's socks he's been wearing all day and hang that. Emma wont go near it.
